Medical Properties Trust (MPT) is a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) that owns the property.
There is a complicated history of ownership starting from the original sale by Caritas to Steward to where it is today. Suffice to say at this point in time MPT owns the property in its entirety free and clear—no note holders, etc.
MPT has committed that they will get a deal done regarding the property. Changes in the law by the Commonwealth make leasing the property a challenge, and the Commonwealth has stated they would like MPT to exit the state entirely. MPT has stated they would like to exit the Massachusetts marketplace.
