Rush/Rogers speak individually with Governor Healey about concerns of the future of Norwood Hospital emphasizing that it is unique from the rest of the Steward System and has opportunity to be first new built hospital in MA in nearly 30 years. Request collaboration to get Norwood Hospital sold and operated again.

August 2024

Rush/Rogers sends letter to Governor requesting for Emergency DoN for Norwood Hospital to be extended from current expiration of 8/30/24 to 12/31/24.

August 28, 2024

Rush/Rogers meet w/HHS Sec. Kate Walsh, DPH Commissioner Robbie Goldstein to share frustrations with lack of communication and information on how the Administrator is going to work collaboratively with the Norwood delegation to ensure Norwood Hospital is purchased and operated once again; HHS/DPH promise communication moving forward.

September 2024

Rush/Rogers file legislation which would authorize UMass Building Authority to purchase the site from MPT, complete the structure of Norwood Hospital and have it operated under UMass Memorial Health Care, Inc. as “UMass Memorial Health: Norwood Hospital.”

September 25, 2024

Healey assembles working groups to assess future care options for Dorchester and Ayer after closure of Carney Hospital and Nashoba Valley Medical Center.

September 26, 2024

Rush/Rogers send letter to Governor requesting a similar working group be formed for Norwood Hospital.

October 7, 2024

Steward gives formal notice through a filling in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court that it will abandon Norwood Hospital and close its satellite operations; officially turning over the entire site to Medical Properties Trust, Inc.: Norwood Hospital license before Dept. of Public Health is set to expire on 11/5/2024.

  • Includes: Norwood Hospital, Norwood Performance Therapy, Guild Imaging Center, and Norwood Hospital Cancer Care Center at Foxborough.
  • Allows for any new operator to seek a new license from DPH for this site.
