Get In Front of Legislative Leadership

We need Norwood Hospital.

Help us tell state health officials that our region needs this hospital rebuilt and reopened as soon as possible. We need the jobs. We need the hospital beds. We need Norwood Hospital back in action.

In June 2020, Norwood Hospital was evacuated during an emergency flood event, following a simultaneous 500-year storm and microburst. Damage was determined to be so severe that the entire hospital needed to be rebuilt.

Initial estimates indicated the hospital ER would be up and running after 3-4 weeks. Nearly four years later, Norwood’s still waiting to get its hospital back.

Dear Secretary Walsh and Commissioner Goldstein,

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the continued closure of Norwood Hospital and to urge you to support efforts to expedite its reopening. As a critical healthcare facility in the region, Norwood Hospital has served as a vital lifeline for countless residents in Norwood and surrounding communities. Its prolonged closure has created significant challenges for public health and safety, exacerbating gaps in emergency care, limiting access to essential medical services, and placing undue strain on neighboring hospitals.

The absence of Norwood Hospital leaves a dangerous void in emergency medical services in the region, particularly for time-sensitive conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, and traumatic injuries. The nearest alternatives for care have become increasingly overwhelmed, resulting in extended wait times and diminished capacity to respond to emergencies. Vulnerable populations, such as seniors and individuals with chronic conditions, are disproportionately affected by the lack of accessible healthcare services nearby.

In addition, the ongoing public health challenges we face, including the strain from the pandemic and the growing demands for behavioral health services, make the reopening of Norwood Hospital even more urgent. Reestablishing this facility would not only restore a critical healthcare resource but also help alleviate the burdens on neighboring healthcare providers and ensure a higher level of preparedness for future public health crises.

I strongly urge you to prioritize the reopening of Norwood Hospital and provide the necessary support to move this process forward swiftly. Our community’s health, safety, and resilience depend on it.

Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your commitment to improving healthcare access and quality in our state. I welcome the opportunity to discuss this issue further or provide any additional information.

Signed,
